Long Service Awardees Also Recognized on Public Service Day
The selection committee is made up of senior public officers, the private sector, B.T.B. and the chair of the Public Service Commission. While there are eight categories, there are many more public officers who will be recognized for their years of service.
Freya August, Ministry of Public Service
“The award ceremony that they are invited to actually it is the recognition of the outstanding awards as well as the long service awards. Within the policy, this programme has expanded from where public officers were recognized at twenty-five years and at twenty-five years they receive a plaque a pin, etc. and they were invited to the gala as well. We’ve expanded it somewhat last year where beginning at ten years public officers are given some kind of general recognition. And when I say general, it’s just so that the process is transparent, it is fair. So once you reach ten years, you receive a certificate from the Ministry of Public Service; however, your ministry presents this to you. This recognition runs from ten up to thirty-five years; every five years, you would be recognized. So twenty-five, thirty and thirty-five however attend a gala event and presented with different categories of gift, prizes and an evening of fun and appreciation and recognition. This is only the second year that the outstanding awards are happening. As we grow, more categories can be identified, we want to ensure that there is review and monitoring of what it is that we receive.”
Two of the major awards are the Governor General’s Legacy Award and the Prime Minister’s Leadership Award.
