The Call for Nominations for Outstanding Public Officers is Coming to a Close

Public officers from across the country who have been exemplary workers and have gone beyond the call of duty will be acknowledged by the government at a gala event to be held on June twenty-third. Every year, the Public Service Ministry organizes a programme to acknowledge outstanding officers; those nominations for the eight available awards come to a close this Friday. The Quality Assurance Unit of the ministry is responsible for the vetting of the online applications submitted by recommenders after which an independent selection committee approved by the C.E.O. will determine the winners. Supervisor Freya Parham-August shares details on how you can get those submissions in.

“The process is fairly simple. You visit the Ministry of Public Service website, which is www.publicservice.gov.bz You can get all the information there; it tells you of the criteria and the categories; we have eight categories. And it gives the information on the criteria; who can be nominated. Generally, any public officer can be nominated and anyone can make a nomination. You don’t have to be public to nominate, but you do have to be a public officer to be nominated. On the site also there is a form; it is an electronic form so nominations can only be done online. We actually try to make things more easy and convenient. So the forms can be filled in online and you fill that form and upload a one-page overview of why you believe this person is eligible or a team. A team can include an entire department, an entire ministry or a couple individuals who have worked together on a particular project or an initiative and you press submit. The awards generally are to harness a culture of service excellence so it seeks to identify and recognize people who really have done exceptional within the public service. Generally, public officers work hard. While you’re sleeping or like yourself, while others are sleeping, they are working in disaster, for election duties; the police. So public officers work harder than we often times give them credit for.”
