P.S.U. condemns I.M.F. policies

Tomorrow, the Belize Public Service Union will join other public sector unions both regionally and internationally in condemning certain policies of the International Monetary Fund. September twenty-ninth is being observed as the Public Sector Union Day of Action for Global Justice. Specifically, the unions are denouncing business strategies encouraged by the I.M.F. such as downsizing and labour flexibility. In a press release issued today, the Public Service Union of Belize also says it has joined the other unions in requesting that all debts owed by poor countries be cancelled and that the Free Trade of the Americas agreement, which the unions maintain undermine public education and health care, should not be established. The date was chosen in order to coincide with the meetings of the I.M.F. and the World Bank in Washington D.C.
