SBDC Teaches Small Businesses How to Market their Goods and Services

Today, the Small Business Development Center held a one-day workshop with small business-owners to talk about marketing their business. The focus of the session was how to put together a marketing plan and what these small businesses can do to increase the awareness of their goods and services even on a small budget. Business Advisor of the SBDC Lorraine Herrera says that the session also included a strong focus on how small businesses can use social media to their advantage.

“We are teaching them today what’s marketing; why is marketing important when it comes to your small business; when putting together your marketing plan what is the purpose of that plan. As you know, when a business owner goes in to financial institutions, having a business plan is important but having a marketing plan attached to it is very important as well because the financial institution wants to know how you are going to make money; how you are going to market this product or service. What we want to touch is especially the social media aspect of marketing. Some of them don’t know why market through social media and why it is important. A part of what I am doing today is looking at customer service along with marketing. We all know that a lot of people jump on Facebook everyday and it is a part of our everyday lives. So, we want to see how we can make the marketing aspect of your business be out there and it is positive awareness, building that positive relationship with your costumers.”
