Cyclists Fed Up with Federation, Meet to Discuss Way Forward
Earlier you heard the 2019 Female Cross Country Champion, Kaya Cattouse react to the back and forth between Justin Williams and the Cycling Federation of Belize. As the situation continues to unfold, a meeting amongst cyclists is planned for tonight to determine the next steps that will be taken by the athletes given the mess in the sport. According to Cattouse, the constitution provides for fifteen percent of the membership to sign off on a petition for an extraordinary congress to take place. So is that the way forward?
Kaya Cattouse, Female Cross Country Champion 2019
“I mean as cyclists, we run the federation; the federation does not run us. And if we want change, we need to unite and come together as a cycling body and decide what we are going to do as the cyclists. We are the bosses.”
Duane Moody
“What steps can be taken to remedy the situation. If the federation is not working for you guys, what do you do?”
Kaya Cattouse
“Step one is coming together and deciding what we are going to do. And it has been stopping at step one for some time now because the hardest thing is to get people to unite not only in cycling but in anything in Belize. It is hard to get people to come together.”
