Agric 2019: the Sights and Sounds

The number of visitors to this year’s agric was down this year. Still yet, there were the usual activities such as the rodeo and the promotion by businesses. The agricultural sector displayed a wide range of items from nurseries to cattle and the shrimp industry. News Five’s Duane Moody has the sights and sounds.

The 2019 National Agricultural and Trade Show had the usual trappings of one of the biggest expos held annually in Belize, but the number of persons attending the agric was simply not there, when compared to previous years. It was nevertheless an opportunity for great deals if you are into the electronics as well as for those who love nature. Henry Canton Junior of Agricultural Development and Services Limited says that this year, they are all about love.

“The selling of different types of ornamentals and fruit trees; different types of oranges and grapefruits and then soup sop—I mean different variations. And whatever we don’t have we look into to have maybe for the next week or the next trade show. But we try to provide everything of good quality.  And most of our plants are grafted.”

There were a number of avid farmers and planters who visited the Plant World Nursery. Based in the south, they provide certified citrus plants for the industry and had the plants for sale at the agric.

“We have many of the certified varieties in the country. We have them on sale. Special prices of single variety on a tree or two varieties in case of those who have limited planted space at home in your backyard. Also we are here sharing information on who we are as an association and as a nursery operator in the country and as much as we can on how you can take care of your backyard citrus.”

There was no shortage of gadgets on sale at the Agric…from the latest android and apple devices and the great deals. So we headed over to the world of technology.

“Everybody wants affordable phone. We are in an era where everybody wants LTE, wants data so we made data phones very affordable, from ninety-nine dollars up. Tablets is always a big thing, drones for kids. We’ve also done a lotta deals on accessories. We realize a lot of people buy phones and want to accessorize it. So we have accessories from five dollars up. Basically, as usual, we try to make all the gadgets as affordable.”

“As usual, there were here from extra early this morning so by the time we were opening, there was already a long line. So we started quite well this morning. The first fifty customers to the booth this morning got a chance to purchase an LTE device fifty-nine dollars. We have awesome devices on sale: alcatel for one-o-nine, Samsung J2s, J4s; those are the big sellers. Those are going really fast.   We are having double triple on the grounds. We have agents all around the Agric showgrounds. So it is quick; you just go purchase your top-up and continue enjoying the grounds. We love coming out to the Agric. The support that we get is overwhelming. It doesn’t matter what devices we have on sale, people always want a deal. And what we are doing, we are only selling LTE devices. We have the largest LTE network. We want everybody to enjoy the experiences.”
