NAVCO Issues Release in Support of Referendum
NAVCO, which is the National Association of Village Councils, today issued a statement circulated by the government. First, it says it represents fifty-five percent of the population. Second, according to NAVCO, the national, district and village council leaders have had an integral and active role in helping to organize the education campaign since 2017 in conjunction with the I.C.J. Referendum Unit. Third, NAVCO states it can therefore attest that the process has been as thorough and objective as is humanly possible and is satisfied that the people are empowered to make an educated decision. The organization, however, is also encouraging voters to continue seeking and searching for whatever additional and relevant information between now and the scheduled date of the referendum. Fourth, NAVCO says it is in the best interest of the nation to seize this opportunity now to bring finality to the long-standing unfounded Guatemalan claim. The long and short is that it is advocating for a YES vote.
