Police are investigating the shooting death of a B.D.F. volunteer whose life was cut short on Wednesday night in proximity to his house on Lopez Street in the Saint Martin De Porres area of the city. Hamed Guzman was walking along with a friend just before nine o’clock to pick up a bicycle when a gunman came up and took aim at the duo. Guzman was struck multiple times and died on the spot.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“Police were called to Lopez Street in the Saint Martin De Porres area where upon arrival; they observed the lifeless body of a male person who was later identified as Hamed Guzman, thirty years of a Lopez Street address. Initial investigation reveals that shortly before that time, Guzman along with another male person left his home and he was approached by a male person who fired several shots at him, some of which caught him, causing the fatal injury.”
But was the thirty-year-old the intended target? Today, his family met with personnel from the Belize Defense Force on funeral arrangements. As the result of a post-mortem is pending, police say that investigators are yet to determine a motive for the crime.
“So far we do not have anyone in custody and police investigation into this matter is ongoing.”
