Minister Faber Congratulates B.N.T.U. National President, Elena Smith
The Belize National Teacher’s Union held its forty-ninth national convention in late April. President Elena Smith was uncontested and remains at the head of the union for a second term. Smith’s presidency has been tested by the long list of challenges affecting teachers at all levels. Minister of Education Patrick Faber and Smith have not always seen eye-to-eye, but today Faber was in a generous mood and had only well wishes for Smith assumes her second term at the B.N.T.U.
Patrick Faber, Minister of Education
“Biggest congratulations. I look forward to working with Mrs. Elena and while yes there are times we don’t see eye to eye, I don’t want to say that it is most of the times, but this is how it is and I have always tried to carry myself in the office when I have to engage with the B.N.T.U. in a very professional manner and again, while we don’t always agree I give maximum respect to the Belize National Teachers Union and its newly re elected president Mrs. Elena.”
Smith took over the presidency in 2017.
