Barrow sharply criticises govt.
Meanwhile, Leader of the Opposition Dean Barrow took a slightly different route, choosing to focus on what he believes are the shortcomings of the government in power.
Dean Barrow, Leader of the Opposition
“Millions are spent to build ninety thousand dollar homes that you can’t afford and even less want. And a new city not on a hill, but in the heart of sinking swamp land, as a monument to the ego and profit of politicians. It is also part of the great paradox that seems to be overtaking us that the twentieth anniversary of our independence comes at a time when we seem hell bent on alienating every last national asset we possess. The Belize Airports Authority and the Belize Port Authority are publicly on the auction block, destined to follow B.E.L., B.T.L. and WASA. This is so notwithstanding the less than salutary experience to date of the so called privatisation process.”
In related news, President George W. Bush has sent the nation a letter of congratulations on the occasion of Belize’s twentieth birthday. In that note, the U.S. leader offered his thanks for the expression of friendship and support extended by the Belize government following the unprecedented terrorist attack on September eleventh.
