BCCI and BNN collaborate to provide Polling and Counting Monitors
At this time observers from the Commonwealth and from CARICOM are already in Belize in respect of Wednesdays Referendum. Their role is to keep an eye on the voting process. But there is also a role for monitors which are normally drawn from political parties but on this referendum the Elections and Boundaries Department has invited other organizations to participate. Today the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Belize Network of NGO’s announced they will be providing polling and counting monitors countrywide. A joint press release states that the B.C.C.I. is providing financial and in-kind support while the B.N.N. is contributing the necessary human resources required for the effort. A total of seventy-two monitors will be deployed to the different centres around the country on referendum day at the request of the B.C.C.I. and B.N.N. which had pledged that “our team of Monitors will do its best to ensure a smooth voting process on this day of days.”
