Carrington receives Order of Distinction
Also visiting Belize this week is CARICOM Secretary General Edwin Carrington. This afternoon Carrington was presented with Belize’s Order of Distinction by Governor General Sir Colville Young. The award recognises Carrington’s contribution to regional integration and Belize’s place in the Caribbean Community. According to the CARICOM chief, Belize holds a special place in his heart.
Edwin Carrington, Secretary General, CARICOM
“Certainly for me, It’s the first time I’ve been honoured by any CARICOM member state other than my home. I must also say that it is very encouraging to those of us who toil in this particular vineyard and seek to make a contribution to the development of our peoples through regionalism. It is particularly appreciative and treasured by me. I am not a native of Belize, yet I have been so honoured. Though they are some who refuse to believe that either I have some element of being here by birth or some other reason for being so close to closely attached to Belize.”
Carrington is the sixth person to be conferred with the Order of Distinction.
