Mail service resumes from U.S.A.
While air service between Belize and the U.S.A. has resumed in the wake of the worst terrorist attack on modern history, some things are taking a little longer to return to normal. Mail, for example. After receiving several inquiries from viewers we spoke this afternoon to Postmaster General Compton Hinkson, who informed us that while mail service has been suspended since Tuesday the first bags should be arriving at the post office tonight or Wednesday morning. Mail destined for the United States made its first departure today, while service to and from Central America, which travels on TACA, was not affected. Hinkson said that letters and packages headed beyond the U.S. to Europe, Africa or Asia are still on hold until the transit backlog at U.S. post offices has been reduced. Bottom line is that those Belizeans awaiting remittances from the States should not have to wait too much longer. The cheque, as they say, is in the mail.
