Santino Castillo Wants Back Caribbean Shores Seat

Businessman and cyclist, Santino Castillo, is returning to the political arena. Castillo has announced he wants to run again in the Caribbean Shores Constituency for the U.D.P.  After serving as Minister of State, in 2015, Castillo stepped down to allow former Belize City Darrell Bradley to go against the P.U.P.’s Kareem Musa who emerged as the victor.  Well according to Castillo, Bradley is “history for the U.D.P. in Caribbean Shores.” Castillo, who submitted his candidate application to the U.D.P. on February thirteenth, publicly made the announcement via his Facebook page. Castillo reminded his followers that he won the Caribbean Shores seat by almost seven hundred votes in the 2012 general elections. He said that he stepped down because he wanted to avoid a bloody political battle. Castillo, however, said that his decision to step down took the party “backwards, and in hindsight was a mistake.”

“Since then Darrell hasn’t done very much for the constituency. In fact, he lost a seat that I had won by nearly seven hundred votes by fifty six votes. In basket ball you would call that a seven hundred and fifty six turn around. So now that I understand that he is no longer in, and the Prime Minister is opening back up the constituency, I decided that I want back my seat. That is the long and short answer to your question.”

“That is what I am understanding. The people of Caribbean Shores have always been a very independent people. They vote, in my mind, candidate, not party. So I believe that they chose the candidate for the P.U.P. over Darrell Bradley. Now I believe that I will make a reconnect with the people which is very easy. I am very amiable, likeable, well known personality in my country. I am not saying to blow my own horn. I am saying that because that it what I will utilize to reconnect with the people of Caribbean Shores. I think I served them well. I only served them for a little over three years but I think I did a lot of the constituency during my time that I was in. I am sure they will remember that and the connection will be an easy on especially since I am understand there are other candidates who are interested, who have not been in Caribbean Shores like I have. So my connection will be much easier that theirs.”
