Lindon Baldwin is Murdered on Ebony Street
At around seven-thirty this morning, the lifeless body of Lindon Baldwin was found at a yard on Ebony Street in Belize City. Baldwin was there on Monday night in the company of two men, known to him, when he came under attack. One of the men fired several gunshots at him. It is not known if his demise was quick, but his body was discovered this morning. Persons in area heard up to seven shots, but did not see anything unusual. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

There was a backup of traffic earlier this morning on Youth for the Future Drive in Belize City; police had cordoned off its intersection with Ebony Street. It was the scene of yet another homicide in the streets of south side Belize City where in the past three days; three persons have lost their lives to gun violence. The body of Lindon Baldwin was discovered to the rear of this corner lot. Police say he was along with two men under this house when one of them opened fire on him. The discovery was made just after seven a.m.

“The neighbour over dehn come tell we this morning that dehn find my bredda dead. That dah after seven. Young man come way ina di yard and halla Emma yo breda dead. So we just run through the alley mouth and we gone check fi see if dah he. We see the body on the ground, two hand dehn scrape up—under ih hand by ih arm ya soh scrape up. And wah shot dah ih neck and ina ih chest. Most dah ina ih chest di bullet dehn gone.”
The family was unable to access the area and stood watch several houses away as the body of their loved one was covered in a sheet, placed in the pan of a police pickup truck and transported to the morgue at the K.H.M.H. where it awaits a post-mortem exam. According to his sister, Emma Baldwin, her brother was to turn twenty-three later this month, but his life was cut short sometime on Monday night. Residents say they heard up to seven blasts but thought no one was injured.

“Yesterday evening about after five, ih wash before ih gone. Ih say ih di come back. Ih say ih wah come back fi come pick in ih clothes, but ih neva did come any at all. Ih neva did come back the night.”

“From what we understand, shots were fired last night. Did you hear them? Did you know it was your brother being attacked?”

“We never hear nothing. The young lady from the next side, the neighbour say she heard about seven or six shots, but we noh hear nothing but we close. Ih say dehn hear the gunshot and they run out, but didn’t see anybody. When we gone out there this morning dehn tell we that because we neva know nothing. Ih two hand mi deh over ih chest like this. Ih slippers deh on pan ih foot still so I noh think ih run cause if ih mi run, ih slippers mi wah come off ah ih foot. So I noh know weh fi say.”
While police are yet to ascertain a motive at this time, Emma says that last week Wednesday, her brother told her that his life had been threatened.

“How recent was that?”
“Last week Wednesday. Ih say dehn mi threaten ahn and thing but I noh really sure dah who. I noh wah tell lie fi ahn, but he noh give trouble. He woulda come home and say Emma yo got something fi eat and I noh mind give ahn. Yesterday ih say ih want wash and I buy soap powder fi ih wash yesterday. Ih say ih noh got no clothes fi use so ih gone dah my sister fi wah shirt. Ih got wah long pants weh I cut fi ahn fi make it use. That’s the last time I see ahn after five.”
