No Charges Against Andrew Caliz in Death of Francisca Duarte
An investigation into the shooting death of thirty-one-year-old Francisca Caceres Duarte, a Honduran national who was killed in the predawn hours of Tuesday, remains open. Punta Gorda police are yet to determine whether the common-law wife of Andrew Caliz was accidentally killed when a licensed firearm belonging to the tour operator reportedly discharged inside their bedroom. The incident happened at the couple’s home near the bank of the Columbia River in Big Falls, Toledo District. In speaking with Caliz’s sister, News Five learned that the relationship between Duarte and her husband was tumultuous and that several hours prior to the unfortunate incident, the two were involved in a dispute with each other. According to Martina Caliz, her brother was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the misunderstanding.

“Is he a troublesome guy? Is he a calm individual? What kind of person is Andrew Caliz?”
Martina Caliz, Sister-in-law of Deceased
“I can’t even understand what kind of guy Andrew is because Andrew, as far as I know Andrew, like my cousin was telling me, “I don’t believe, I can’t believe Andrew did something like that. Andrew is a different person from something like that.” I tell ahn yes, because living with someone and seeing someone is another thing. You come and visit now and again and talk and, you know, maybe he gives you a different story. He doesn’t say what kind of life, he doesn’t say what kind of life he is living. But as far as I know Andres, he is very, very ignorant. I don’t trust him. He is my brother, but I don’t trust him.”

“Do you know if your brother may have been drinking yesterday, as to why something like this could have happened?”
Martina Caliz
“He drinks every time. Yesterday he was drinking. Yes, he was drinking because the lady said [that] Andrew, when he di drink, ih get crazy. So I don’t know what will be the result of him now. I am so sorry to hear this and I don’t know what will be the result. They called me a few hours ago that he is in the hospital with high blood pressure. I don’t know.”

“And he is telling police that it’s an accident.”
Martina Caliz
“He said it’s an accident, but I don’t know [that] an accident can be a shot by the back… I don’t know much about law but giving someone a shot in the back… I don’t know. I don’t know what to say.”
Charges are yet to be levied against Andrew Caliz, whom we understand was hospitalized in Punta Gorda on Tuesday.
