Fabro resigns to run for B.N.F.A presidency
The chairman of the National Football Selection Committee, Daniel Fabro, has resigned. Fabro called a press conference this morning, not only to announce his displeasure with the leadership of the present association, headed by president Dr. Bertie Chimilio, but to make his own bid for presidency of the B.N.F.A.
Daniel Fabro, Former Chairman, B.N.F.S.
“I could not with a clear conscience continue to work along or with what I see will be, if these statues go into effect, a complete totalitarian dictatorship for the next twenty years. We held an extraordinary meeting of owners only from the B.F.L. last night and because of this, I will be offering myself directly to run for B.N.F.A. president against Dr. Chimilio. Erwin Contreras is a part of the slate. We have not yet decided a full slate yet, but we will offer a very diverse slate, which will include people from throughout this country and it will include definitely at least one woman. This will be a hard, long, fought out situation for the next thirty days or whatever it is that we have to call this election, but this election will be called. We will see if it will be called because we will seek all legal advice and recourse. It will be called under the old statues or the new statutes. But regardless of what statues, it will be called. We will have to prepare ourselves to fight this fight.”
Fabro says the new proposed football statutes put forward at a meeting of the B.N.F.A. on Saturday made him realise that the sport needs new leadership.
