Family in Belize hopes for best, fears worst
It has been an even more trying time for Alva Jeffries’ family in Belize. According to family members living in Belize City, Jeffries arrived at work at seven on Tuesday morning and they have not heard from her since. They say even though her office was located just below the section where the first plane hit, they have not given up hope. Maureen Leslie, who did not wish to appear on camera, spoke about her cousin, saying that Alva Jeffries, a quiet but friendly person, was like a sister to her.

“I knew she worked in one of the towers, which one I was not sure of. But I was hoping it would have been the second one so she would have gotten a chance to get out. But unfortunately when we got the message it was on the first tower where the first plane hit, on the ninety-six floor that is where she worked.”
My aunt, my cousins and her brother, they are all searching for the body. I spoke to my cousin in Chicago and she said they have not turn up with….anything yet. Speaking to my aunt this morning she said she still never had any word about her or any information. She is just hoping and praying that she will be okay.”
Alva Jeffries’ most immediate relatives are her mother Lois Lightburn and one son. The family is trying to remain optimistic, although they realise that time is not on their side.
