Happy Teachers’ Day
Educators across the country are today celebrating Teachers’ Day. In Belize, the day is set aside every year in May to honor and celebrate the contributions of educators at all levels. While last year there was a national event, this year teachers were left to celebrate their day in their own way. Considered the most influential profession in the world, teaching allows educators to shape the minds of the youth and impart good values in children and transform them into responsible citizens. This is why, according to Education Minister Patrick Faber, teachers should be cherished.
Patrick Faber, Minister of Education
“We want to wish the teachers well. It is often perceived that there is some kind of struggle with the teachers and myself. It is not that, more the B.N.T.U. on occasions when we are trying to come to a common understanding. But I have the world of respect for teachers. If we don’t have good quality teachers and if we don’t honor them and reassure them then there is no way that this society can move on. So in this month of May when we honor all things education and tomorrow when we honor our teacher, I join all Belizeans in saluting our teaches as they take the day to reflect why is it that they are teaching and how they themselves can improve and of course while they get a little relaxation in there.”
