Henry Augustine Perishes in RTA Near Georgetown Junction
Twenty-four-year-old Henry Augustine lost his life on the Southern Highway earlier this week when a vehicle knocked him down near the Georgetown junction. According to thirty-one-year-old Lascelle Coote, himself and Augustine were parked on the left hand side of the highway on Monday night and were conversing when a vehicle traveling in the opposite direction swept Augustine from where he was standing. The driver of oncoming vehicle, twenty-four-year-old Miguel Arriasa, told police that he swerved to avoid colliding into the Ford Ranger pickup when he struck Augustine.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“On May twentieth, sometime around 8:25 pm, police were called to an area between miles twenty-nine and thirty on the Southern Highway which is near the Georgetown junction. Upon arrival, one Lascelle Coote reported to police that himself, along with Henry Augustine were traveling in a black Ford Ranger pickup and they had stopped at the Georgetown junction, but instead they parked on the left hand side when heading north. They had exited the vehicle and were conversing when a Tandem truck coming from the other direction driven by one Miguel Arriasa of St. Matthews Village was coming in the opposite direction and in order not to collide into the vehicle, he swerved, hitting Augustine who received head and body injuries and was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Independence Polyclinic. The driver of the truck, Arriasa, was detained and thereafter, after consultations, both drivers were issued with notices of intended prosecution whilst the investigation is ongoing.”
