Placencia Land Dispute Ends in Shooting

Joseph Myvett

A resident of Placencia is tonight recovering at the Southern Regional Hospital after an altercation with his neighbour ended with him being shot in the leg. Francis Eiley has had a land dispute with Terrence Lopez for some time now and on Monday night, it came to a head; Lopez reportedly pulled out his licensed firearm at Eiley. The men wrestled during which the trigger was pulled and Eiley was injured. He was picked up by police while trying to get to a medical facility and taken to the hospital in Dangriga where he is now in a stable condition. ACP Joseph Myvett says that charges will soon be levied against Lopez.

“Shortly after 8:30 p.m., Placencia police responded to shooting incident on the main street, where upon arrival they met one Francis Eiley, forty-three years of a Placencia address, walking towards the polyclinic with apparent gunshot injuries. He was assisted by the police to t he clinic where he was attended to and observed to have gunshot injuries to his leg. What he reported to the police is that he was at home earlier when he had a confrontation with a neighbour, one Terrence Lopez, where Lopez advanced towards him and pulled out is licensed nine millimetre pistol and pointed it towards his head. As a result a struggle ensued between both parties which caused the fire to discharge, hitting Eiley. Eiley is at the Southern Regional Hospital in a stable condition while Lopez is in police custody and his firearm was retrieved.”
