Two captured prisoners receive whipping
We have a follow up to a story we ran last week about the escape and recapture of two inmates from the Youth Enhancement Academy adjacent to Hattieville Prison. The two young men, Fredrick Arzu and John Elijio, were tried on Friday before a panel of visiting justices and pled guilty to the crime of escape. Using their powers under the laws of Belize, the three visiting justices: Russel Vellos, Kent Gabb and Cecil Gill imposed a punishment on each of six strokes with a tamarind whip. The sentences were carried out this afternoon in the presence of one visiting justice, Prison Governor Bernard Adolphus and other officials of the Department of Corrections.
