O.W. villager wounded by police bullet
The weekend’s resistance to police was not confined to Crooked Tree. On Sunday a resident of August Pine Ridge Village in Orange Walk was wounded when a police officer shot him in the leg. According to police reports, Mauricio Cordova was injured by a bullet fired by P.C. 569 Neal, after a disorderly crowd surrounded the officer while he attempted to break up a fight. According to another officer present, P.C. 575 Novelo, Neal fired two warning shots in the air, but the crowd continued to advance and throw rocks. Cordova allegedly threw one rock, which hit Neal in the mouth, knocking out several teeth. That was when Neal fired at Cordova, who was admitted to Orange Walk Hospital under police guard. No charges have yet been filed against Cordova, who remains hospitalised.
