3rd Annual Police Youth Mentorship Program Launched

One hundred and sixty-eight boys and girls are forming this year’s intake for the third annual Police Youth Mentorship Programme. The program which starts tomorrow and concludes in the next six months was launched today in Belize City. Participants will embark on a journey, led by their mentors, with the aim to be molded in productive citizens. Essentially, the goal is to steer at-risk youth away from the life of crime. The initiative has seen positive growth since its first year and Commissioner of Police Chester Williams says the success of the program is evident.

“We have seen a number of positive impacts since our first cohort. I guess you saw Anatasia just now. She was a part of our previous cohort. Because she was a part of it we got a scholarship for her to go to school. So we try to see what we can do, to give them additional incentives for them to even become a part. So you see Anatasia; she is now a mentor. She was first a mentee and now she is a mentor. That speaks volume for us. It shows that we have taken the child from where she was, from where she needed that help, that mentorship to where she is now helping and mentoring others. So it speaks a lot for us. We want to be able to ensure that we have many more success stories. I am sure with the attitude of the young people that you see in that room and their willingness to learn we will have many good stories out of this other cohort.”
