Compre Teachers Stage Sick Out, Again

Fourth form teachers of Belmopan Comprehensive School today engaged in protest action against the administration of the school. The teachers are up in arms over the decision of the school to allow seventeen students to participate in this year’s commencement exercises. The teachers say that the seventeen students have not successfully satisfied all requirements to participate in the commencement exercise scheduled for Thursday. In a letter dated May thirtieth, the fourth form teachers informed Acting Principal, Medellin Guzman Campbell, of their displeasure with the decision and say that this is yet another year whereby decisions are being made without the consultation of the teachers. The teachers are asking the school to retract the decision because allowing the students to graduate is a blatant contradiction to the statement for the presentation of candidates which is for qualifying graduates. The teachers also say that the decision also compromises the integrity of the school. In response, in a letter dated May thirty-first, Guzman-Campbell tells the teachers that the seventeen students were considered for recuperation in compulsory subjects and will complete these classes over the summer.
