B.T.L. blows out San Cas U.B. in game I

Story Picture
Whether you watched the game from the City Centre or your living room, the first game of the semi-pro finals had plenty of action to keep your eyes on the court. San Cas U.B. came out determined to take the lead early, but in the end, the power plays from the B.T.L. Nets was just too much. Sports reporter James Adderley has the low down on the highlights.

The long awaited semi-pro basketball finals got off at the City Centre last night and indeed nobody was quite prepared for what transpired on the court.

Who was prepare just happened to be Eloy “The Admiral” Lamb, who opens the scoring by giving San Cas U.B. the quick two point lead.

Nets find themselves down by seven points when Compton “Speedy” Staine works his way through traffic to get his team on the scoreboard.

This semi breakaway by A.C. Augustine cuts the B.T.L. deficit to one. And then Keith the mighty Acosta steals from Angus “Walla” Cherrington to put the Nets ahead by two.

If you like to see the small man abuse the giants, well Compton Staine shows you how right here. And of course, B.T.L. can dial long distance, so Stuart Sutherland rings up the tray and at the half, B.T.L. boasts a twelve-point lead.

In second half play, U.B. immediately goes on a run as Kelvin Gillett delivers the triple. Even when Gillett is rejected by Andy Wormsley, Darwin Carter insists with the put back to continue the run. And then Eric May takes to the air for a monster mashing, but the deficit is still twelve.

From this point on, it seems U.B. just folds under the B.T.L. pressure and Keith Acosta keeps it on with this three pointer. It’s now showtime for Keith Acosta, as Kevin Seroki sets him to shine and boy does he shine.

Seizing the momentum, the Nets roll so the American Andy Wormsley displays his reverse two hander. And now this can only be defined as the play of the basketball game, Seroki comes up with the steal, finds Andy Wormsley and this dunk can only be described as Jordanesque. Is this a crowd pleaser or what?

Naturally the Nets go on to win game I 84-48, the biggest margin in a semi-pro championship game. They could close out the show Wednesday. We’ll see you there. This is James Adderley, reporting for News 5.

Tip off for game two is scheduled for 8:00 tomorrow night…Belize time of course.
