Radiothon raises funds for Habitat
In a successful radiothon over the weekend, Habitat for Humanity has raised enough money to construct another house. Pledges exceeded the initial goal of twenty-two thousand dollars for the construction of a two bedroom home and organisers are hoping to raise an additional three thousand dollars by the end of this month so that a three bedroom house can be built. Carla Sainsbury of Habitat for Humanity says willing workers are always wanted.
Carla Sainsbury, Exec. President, Habitat for Humanity Bz.
“We are always in need of volunteers, so if people want to come out and give of their time to the houses while construction is going on, give up their labour, we will take that from that. But also if people have companies that produce cement blocks or sand and gravel, stuff like that, we would welcome that. We welcome tools as well. As you are aware, during our special build we had some of our tools stolen. And so I want to implore the business community that if they want to give us tools to replace the ones that were stolen, we would gladly receive that.”
One business that has already responded is the Belize Bank. The bank pledged to supply all the materials that are required for the building of a Habitat house.
