Three detained for gas station heists
Orange Walk police tonight have three men in custody who are believed to have robbed two gas stations on the Northern Highway. They are brothers Anthony McKoy Montes and Augustine Diego Montes, as well as Moises Williams, all of Belize City. Police say they received a report that sometime before daybreak this morning the Shell One-Stop Service Station in Orange Walk town was burglarised. Thousands of dollars in cash and goods were stolen from a safe along with B.T.L. telephone cards bearing the gas station’s name. Shortly after 6:30 a.m. Belize City police intercepted McKoy, Diego and Williams at the Three Star Guest House on Meighan Avenue in the city. The men had over seventeen thousand dollars and phone cards in their possession, and according to police, were in the process of sharing out the loot. Hotel owner Alice Neal told News 5 that one of the three men arrived in a blue taxi and asked for a room. Little did she know the police were hot on their heels. The Montes brothers and Williams are also being questioned in connection with another early morning robbery at Buca Shell Gas Station at mile two on the Northern Highway. They are expected to be charged for the Orange Walk heist on Wednesday.
