11 lost at sea found safe on island
In related news, eleven people attempting to flee Chantal found themselves in the thick of it last night after the boats they were travelling in got lost between San Pedro and Corozal. Reports are still sketchy, but apparently two Mexican skiffs carrying eleven people left San Pedro around 10:30 Monday morning. The vessels lost their way in the torrential rain and ended up at a fishing camp on a deserted caye. Fortunately, one of the passengers, Simon Williams Jr., was armed with a cell phone and was able to contact Corozal police this morning, but still had no idea where they were. All the castaways had to go on was a postcard found on the caye addressed to one Richard Reed. The information was relayed to the police who tracked down Reed in Sarteneja. Early this afternoon Reed, the owner of the fishing camp, accompanied police to Bulk Head Caye, located in the channel between Ambergris Caye and the mainland. There they found the tired and hungry men, women and children. They were given food and water and escorted to Sarteneja earlier this evening.
