Geovanni Bracket No Longer President of COLA
Geovanni Brackett is no longer the president of Citizens Organized for Liberty through Action, COLA. Brackett passed on the baton to twenty-one-year-old Shawn Christopher Saldano who won the post in an uncontested election. COLA has been described as a firebrand, grassroots activist group which has had a significant impact on several national issues over the past years. Brackett has led many of the protests and demonstrations and mounted pressure on the government on key issues. He, however, has decided to move on and give way to younger blood. According to Brackett, there was no friction among the executive and the transition is proving to be smooth.
Geovanni Brackett, Former President, COLA
“COLA, I believe, has been the most vociferous organization on all issues. Whether it was arrested and charged Elvin Penner, supporting the Feinstein project in the area of economics and tourism, support Yhony Rosado and the FECTAB crew and the teachers union. Many times a grassroots organization fail to amass crowd but when we joined with I Want my Country Back we had close to eighteen hundred people out there. COLA under my leadership with a non budget ran a more campaign base and I think Christopher will have the opportunity now to build on that and improve. And I want to say categorically I know this young man will be even a better leader than me.”
Shawn Saldano, President, COLA
“As the incoming president of COLA, it gives me the great opportunity to not only work with my colleagues but also to empower the people of Belize through advocacy, through consistency and effective campaign, a strong recruitment and membership operations as well as focusing and prioritizing on the administrative and operational aspects of COLA. The work before me is tremendous and the task that I am committed to is now to continue that work, build that work and to set a strong foundation for COLA to continue ten, fifteen years from now in resilience and strength.”
