Belize City couple busted for drugs and guns
Police have busted a Belize City man they believe is a major player in the city’s drug trade. Thirty-four year old Dean Gillett was arrested on Wednesday along with his girlfriend at their house on Berry Street. A search of the premises, prompted by a tip, resulted in the discovery of almost four ounces of crack cocaine and a large stash of cash, including almost twenty-six thousand dollars in U.S. currency and over five thousand Belize. Perhaps more troublesome from the police point of view, were two guns and a large quantity of ammunition also found in the house. One, a ten millimetre Glock with two clips of ammo, is a prohibited weapon and carries a mandatory jail sentence. The other, an unlicensed nine millimetre Glock, was loaded with six rounds. An additional fifty, nine millimetre bullets and twenty-six rounds of seven point six-two ammunition were also confiscated. Gillett and twenty year old Arleni Avilez have been charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and a prohibited firearm, three counts of unlicensed ammunition and one count of drug trafficking. They have been remanded to Hattieville pending trial.
