S.S.B. and B.E.L. award scholarships
Two of Belize’s biggest corporate heavyweights today announced the award of scholarships to deserving Belizean students. The Belize Social Security Board, in a ceremony at its Belize City office, presented fifteen scholarships to high school students from all six districts. Each scholarship is valued at one thousand dollars per year, and with good grades the recipients may renew them for four years. Belize Electricity Limited took over where the S.S.B. left off by awarding eight scholarships to the University of Belize. The gifts cover tuition for two years, with half of the students pursuing associates degrees and half going for bachelors. Both B.E.L. and Social Security scholarships are awarded based on academic performance, character and need.
