Contractor hit again, this time by embezzler
There is an old maxim that you can steal more money with a sharp pencil than with a loaded gun…and one unlucky Belize City contractor can testify from experience that it’s true. Viewers will recall that in July a brave woman in the Coral Grove neighbourhood, Matea Hoare, wrestled with a gun-toting assailant who tried to grab the payroll of her husband’s contracting business. While her aggressive actions confined the jackers’ take to only two thousand dollars, Matea’s courage apparently could not prevent the theft of almost eight thousand dollars of the company’s money through embezzlement. On Monday, Roberto Hoare reported to police that after suspecting one of his former employees was skimming money off his payroll, he hired a private auditor to do some investigating. That report revealed that over seven thousand, eight hundred and fifty-three dollars was missing from his account. That employee is now being sought by police for questioning.
