Patrick Faber Takes it to Fort George and Toledo West

Patrick Faber

The topic of education proved equally testy as Deputy Prime Minister Patrick Faber responded to concerns raised by Freetown Area Rep and former Minister of Education Francis Fonseca.  In responding to Fonseca, the Minister of Education mentioned assistance provided to students in the Fort George and Toledo West constituencies.  It wasn’t long before area representatives Said Musa and Oscar Requeña joined in the raucous.

Patrick Faber, Minister of Education

“Every list that they send to my office is honored.”

Said Musa, Area Representative, Fort George

“That is not so.  Why do you keep lying?”

Laura Longsworth, House Speaker

“Honorable members…  Honorable Minister we understand your point but it’s getting a little testy, maybe we can move on from there.”

Patrick Faber

“Madame Speaker, the record is there.  The record is there.  Whenever they come and they approach the honorable Minister of Education you get that support.  That is the honest to goodness truth.  The member speaks about the political officers, maybe that da weh di bother dehn Madame Speaker, but you know da who give out di subsidy?  You check all of those pictures.  Who is it that is in the pictures giving the subsidy?  The Minister of Education.  Weh you expect, I noh fi give out di subsidy?  It is I… whoever I invite to be beside me, whomever I choose.”

Laura Longsworth

“Honorable members.”

Patrick Faber

“That is neither here nor there.  When I invite you, you noh come so noh talk.  I always invite the representatives, you ask the member from Toledo West.  You ask the member from Toledo East, they are two that are very good to turn up to things that I have invited them.  Don’t be disingenuous… Don’t be disingenuous.”

Oscar Requeña

Oscar Requeña, Area Representative, Toledo West

“On a point of order, Madame Speaker.  On a point of order, Madame Speaker.  It is improper for the member from Collet to say that he has invited me to any of these award ceremonies, Madame Speaker.  I have not been invited, I go on record.  So please get your facts together, member.”

Patrick Faber

“Madame Speaker, I can tell the honorable member, last year he was right at Julian Cho Technical High School sitting under the auditorium with me when I… and ah got pictures.  I will post it on Facebook by the end of the day.”

Oscar Requeña

“You noh invite me da no award ceremony.”

Patrick Faber

“I promise you.”

Oscar Requeña

“That was when…”

Laura Longsworth

“Honorable members, please take your seats.”

Oscar Requeña

“Madame Speaker, if I may, please… because I have a right to respond to him Madame Speaker.”

Laura Longsworth

“Honorable member, you have made your point of order, please take your seat.  Honorable Deputy Prime Minister please proceed, but move on from that point, it’s well taken.”
