Belize City Games open on Friday
The first ever Belize City Games opens on Friday night and in an effort to get the public energised, a motorcade took to the principal streets of the city earlier this evening. The Games’ co-ordinator, Councillor Austin Waight, told News 5 that various disciplines are represented in the motorcade.

“In the motorcade we have all the different disciplines, basketball, football, boxing, volleyball, cycling especially. We also have the mascot, which is the blackbird that’s the big thrill for the kids. So hopefully with the blackbird we can excite the citizenry to come out to participate in the games.”

“At 6:00 we all line up, all the different disciplines, and then we take to the MCC field in organised fashion. Then we have some speeches by the Mayor, the patron, Mr. Ned Pitts, the Minister of Sports, then we begin the games.”
The games begin with a football match immediately following the official ceremonies. You can catch you favourite sport all week long at various venues around Belize City.
