Darrell Bradley Takes Post as Senator President

Two new senators were sworn in today. It was Darrell Bradley’s first day as President of the Senate. He was appointed to the post after Lee Mark Chang stepped aside to pursue a career in politics. While attorney Michel Chebat has on several occasions temporarily stepped in for the P.U.P.’s lead Senator Eamon Courtenay, today, he took over the post permanently. Chebat is now the lead opposition senator after Courtenay stepped down to dedicate his full attention to his new appointment as the Opposition Leader’s representative on the Belize/Guatemala Committee that is working along with Belize’s I.C.J. International Legal Team. Both men pledged to uphold the sacred duties of the upper house and carry themselves with decorum.

As this is my initial presentation in my new capacity here in the Senate I also wish to express my commitment to upholding the greatest tradition of this house and to ensure that I never descend into the type of behavior that we saw in the house on Friday, the type of derogative remarks, and scandalous behavior Mr. President. That is my commitment to you and our colleagues in the Senate.”
