A Couple is Assaulted in a Home Invasion in the West
A couple was assaulted during a home invasion on the Cristo Rey Road in the west. Canadian national, Evan Anderson and his common-law wife were retiring for the night when three armed men entered their home, demanding that Anderson hand over the keys to his vehicle. The woman was bound while her husband was taken out of the house and to the vehicle. A struggle ensued between Anderson and his assailants before he was struck over the head by one of the thieves. A single gunshot was also fired, but luckily no one was injured. ACP Joseph Myvett says that police have since been in contact with their Guatemalan counterparts in Melchor to see if the vehicle was taken across the border.
ACP Joseph Myvett, Head, National Crimes Investigation Branch
“San Ignacio Police were called to an area known as Monkey Falls on the Cristo Rey Road to the home of Evan Anderson, thirty-eight years Canadian, who reported to police that sometime around eight p.m. when himself and his common-law wife were getting ready to close their home to go and sleep, their home was entered into by three armed dark complexion male persons who demanded the keys for his black in colour Toyota Hilux. As a result, his common-law wife was tied up by means of an electrical cord and he was ordered to take those persons to the area where his vehicle was parked. As a result, he got into a struggle with those persons where he was hit on the head. The police are following several leads, but so far there is no one detained and we are appealing to the public for their assistance if there is any information they may have in relation to this investigation.”

“Is it believed that the perps are from the village or are they from San Ignacio/Santa Elena?”
ACP Joseph Myvett
“At this point in time we do not know. What we can tell you, though, is that the entire area was searched as well as we have been in communication with our Guatemalan counterparts from nearby Melchor.”
