Cayo resort wins regional environment award

Story Picture
A popular Cayo resort has been internationally recognised for its work in preserving the environment. The Lodge at Chaa Creek is this year’s recipient of the Islands Magazine-Caribbean Tourism Organisation Sustainable Tourism Award. The resort, located on the Macal River midway between San Ignacio and Benque Viejo, was honoured for its focus on the environment, commitment to local culture and products, its recycling programme and educational outreach. The award of one thousand U.S. dollars and an original work of art will be presented at the C.T.O. annual conference in the Bahamas in October. Chaa Creek, as well as the competition’s finalists, will also be profiled in the September/October issue of Islands Magazine.
