Fire partially destroys Belize City home
Fifty-six year old George Domingo had to be treated at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital following a fire that engulfed the roof of his daughter’s house at the corner of Tibruce and Mango Streets in Lake Independence. Fire officials told News Five that Domingo, who is reported to have high blood pressure, had an attack and was taken to the K.H.M.H. for treatment but has since been released. Around 5:30 Thursday evening fire broke out in the ceiling of the three bedroom concrete bungalow. Domingo was sleeping inside one of the bedrooms while his eleven-year-old grandson watched television in the living room. The boy said he did not smell anything but saw smoke coming from a back room. He ran to get help and with a neighbour managed to get the attention of Domingo and all three ran out of the building. According to the Fire Department, when firemen arrived on the scene they saw smoke and flames coming from the roof. The fire fighters managed to extinguish the blaze before the entire house was destroyed. However, in their efforts to put out the fire much of the home’s contents were damaged by water. Today fire fighters were back on the scene to investigate what may have caused the blaze. Fire Chief Henry Baizar says at this time they strongly suspect that an electrical fault is to blame. At this time, it is not known if the house was insured as the owner, Veronica Domingo is presently on vacation in the United States and could not be reached.
