San Cas U.B. triumphs in weekend basketball

Story Picture
Good evening I’m James Adderley and you’re in tuned to a fresh serving of Sports Monday. The semi-pro baseball scene was the only ticket in town Friday night matching San Cas U.B. against the Data Pro Raiders.

We start the action with Raiders point guard Fabian Pittman using his left hand to gain two points. The university’s response comes from Eric Maye, who holds his own in the paint.

Meanwhile, ball movement is crucial to the success of this play as Pittman, Garnett and Olin Simplis combine successfully for an eight point Raider lead. So U.B. goes to Darwin Carter and he takes it right through the Raiders defence for two.

From the baseline, Chaka Lightburn raises for two as U.B. begins to set chase in earnest. Darwin Carter then hooks up with Eric Maye and it adds to the U.B. total.

Now check this sweet move by Lloyd Leslie as the Raiders try to maintain their lead. But Dwight Myvette comes right back for U.B. with a move of his own and at the half it’s the University of Belize up by five.

In second half its all University of Belize as Eloy Lamb finds Darwin Carter and he sinks the three-pointer. So Carter decides to try his range from the opposite side of the court and when you’re hot you’re hot.

This no look pass from Cherrington to Lightburn certainly embarrasses the Raiders defence as U.B. takes an eleven point lead. Eloy Lamb, just inside the three point line, raises for two points and the lead balloons to fifteen.

For the Raiders, things certainly took a turn for the worse as Pittman tries to find Lloyd Leslie, who simply can’t hang on to the ball. On the very next play Pittman gives the possession away as U.B. displays tough defence.

Clinton Lamb Fuller then gets the easy breakaway and while he thinks slam–he executes the lay in.

Downcourt, Carter spots up for three and he nails it. And a couple plays later, Carter shows the fans that his shot is for real.

Of course the slam dunk of the ballgame comes very late from the unattended Eric Maye as San Cas U.B. wins big 90-62.

In other match-up over the weekend, Orange Walk Music Centre burned Dangriga Aba Eseini 78-76.
