Village Council Elections Round Two
The second round of village council elections took place on Sunday across the country and both political parties are claiming victory. A total of forty-six villages participated and according to the P.U.P., one hundred and fifty-five of its candidates were elected compared to the one hundred and thirty-two U.D.P. candidates who won. The U.D.P., on the other hand, says that it has managed to win an impressive three hundred and two positions, including forty Chairpersons, in the first two weeks of village council elections. P.U.P. Leader John Briceño was asked today if his party was losing ground on the political front.
John Briceño, Leader of Opposition
“Absolutely not. Even the devil has it followers. The UDP still has followers. Nobody would deny the fact that they have followers. The fact is that we have been making gains all over the country. If you look at the villages that are having elections in the Corozal district for the past two weeks are villages that have always voted UDP. So I am surprised by that but we have been making gains, a little at a time. TO me what it important is that we are moving in the right direction, that we are going to defeat the UDP in the next election.”
