Letter by BTL Requesting Tax Waiver Exists, Says Musa
Amidst the leakage of documents showing B.T.L.’s purported multi-million dollars G.S.T. and business tax debt is a letter reportedly sent by Chairman Nestor Vasquez. In that rumored letter, Vasquez reportedly asked the Financial Secretary, Joseph Waight to waive the debt. When asked about it, Waight said that he has not seen the letter. However, there are consistent reports that the letter is at the G.S.T. Department and a copy is at the Ministry of Finance. P.U.P.’s Kareem Musa told the press today that two reliable sources have confirmed the existence of the letter.

“Belizeans business people are subject to arrest but when BTL is alleged to have committed worse violation of the law then there is nothing to see, nothing going on and not a penny owed. This is a blatant cover up. According to very reliable sources inside the GST department, there exists a letter from the Chairman of the Board of Directors, asking the Financial Secretary for a waiver or a write for the payment of these outstanding taxes. Let me just say this, this has been confirmed from two very reliable sources. If this is true, once again a very serious allegation.”
