Belize City Games trials underway
The Belize City Games begins August eleventh, and whether you’re planning to go for the gold, silver or bronze you must first take part in the preliminaries. According to president of the Belize Amateur Athletic Association, Nelson Hyde, the trials start on Friday from 6:00 until 9:00 p.m.

“The meet is listed as an open meet, that means it’s open to all categories. Normally, that would mean all categories except the infant category, which would be under fourteen.”

“Tell me some of the areas?”
Nelson Hyde
“We’re going to have the usual events expected at a meet of this nature, with one hundred up to fifteen hundred, five thousand, three thousand and all the jumps, long, triple, high jump, shot-put, discus, javelin and the relays. It’s an opportunity for a lot of people who always talk big, they can now put their feet and arms where their mouths are. What we are trying to do this year is also to zone off the city in four different sections and have these zones complete against each other, so there is a little turf to protect for all of them.”

“These are male and female athletes?”
Nelson Hyde
“Male and female, and you don’t have to be special track and field athletes, you can be athletes of any size, any kind, it’s open to you.”
The eliminations continue on Saturday from 12:00 at the Marion Jones Sporting Complex in Belize City.
