NGO seeks to boost tourism in Stann Creek Valley
While the upper Stann Creek Valley has long been known as a lovely place to drive through, it has never been much of a destination on the tourist map. That may be changing thanks to the efforts of a group called Friends of the Valley. On Wednesday the Belize Tourism Board handed a five thousand-dollar cheque to the recently formed NGO to buy materials for its first tourism related project. That effort will focus on establishing trails, shelters, bathrooms and signs for nine areas that will be opened to the public. The first to be inaugurated will be the Pomona Caves along with historical Tidewater and railroad track locations. Future work will be focus on Davis Falls and Macaroni Hill. Venturers from Raleigh International will be providing the labour for the project.
