What Will the New Portal Be Used for?
The objective of the portal is to standardize and reduce the amount of effort needed to transfer data between organizations, as well as give the general public access to disseminated data that can be used to generate reports and graphs.
Dr. Leopold Perriott, Director General, S.I.B.
“A National Statistical System can be seen as a coordinating framework within which the required information for development in the form of indicators are generated. The Belize N.S.S. is envisioned as being a functioning organization, distinct but not separate from its parent government ministries and bodies and is most readily characterized as a partnership between a number of collegiate bodies working together and coordinated by the S.I.B. Major outputs of the National Statistical System include indicators and databases within the context of a management system of statistical information, along with increased and improved human and material capacities of the participating N.S.S. agencies. Today, our attention is focused squarely on the developmental indicators produced by the NSS that can be used by all stakeholders for planning, monitoring and evaluation and making decisions. Indeed, a compendium of developments and line function indicators is critical to the evaluation and tracking of government goals and programs. Over the last eight months, the S.I.B., with technical assistance and financing from the Inter-American Development Bank has been developing a web-based data portal which we are happy to say is being launched today at this event.”
