Honouring Those Brave Cops that Did Their Part in Nabbing the Criminals

Earlier today, a number of police officers attached to Eastern Division and a civilian from Belmopan were honoured for their bravery and for a job well done in the apprehension of suspects in armed robberies in separate incidents in Belize City and Belmopan. Those include Thursday night’s armed robbery of Cooking Masters in which six persons were intercepted and detained as well as the armed robbery of Puma Gas Station in Belmopan where a gas attendant pursued, disarmed and apprehended the suspect. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams says that these successes must be documented and the officers acknowledged for protecting the citizenry.

“Those officers were awarded right here in Belmopan by myself and my management team. They were recognised for the good work they did in the apprehension of those suspects. I must also state that the gas attendant, who was instrumental in the detention of the robber at the gas station here in Belmopan last week Sunday; he too was awarded this morning. The business community in Belmopan chipped in and gave him something and then the police also gave him something and a certificate of appreciation for the good work that he did in single-handedly pursuing, disarming and capturing that robber. We believe that what he did is a clear act of bravery and when we have citizens who are not sworn to do what he did do, it is only right that we give them recognition as well. And so he was recognised this morning; he was given a cash award and other gift certificates.”
