Edwin Nasario is Executed on Southern Regional Hospital’s Compound
There are not too many places where you would feel safe, but now not even the hospitals can bring any sense of security. This afternoon in Dangriga, a resident was shot as he entered a car on the compound of the Southern Regional Hospital. Edwin Nasario was placed in a stretcher and rushed inside, but succumbed. The shocking shooting has left the hospital staff vulnerable and too shaken to comment. News Five’s Isani Cayetano is just back from Dangriga and has the following report.

A forty-five-year-old resident of Dangriga was executed in the parking lot of the Southern Regional Hospital this morning, shortly before midday. The daring attack on Edwin Nasario is arguably the most bald-faced murder carried out a public facility. A pair of gunmen reportedly followed Nasario to the hospital, circled the compound to make sure that he was indeed their quarry, and then came back and opened fire while he was attempting to enter his vehicle.
Chester Williams, Commissioner of Police
“Just after twelve midday today, shots rang out at the compound of the Southern Regional Hospital. Police responded and they saw one Edwin Nasario suffering from gunshot wounds to the body. He was being attended to by the doctors at the Southern Regional, however, he later succumbed to his injuries.”
Nasario, who lives on Commerce Street in Dangriga, had just entered the sports utility vehicle when two men on a red motorcycle rode up to him. The passenger dismounted and fired as many as three shots into the vehicle, hitting the laborer in the left side of the upper back.

“Police are currently in the area canvassing to see what useful information can be obtained as an investigation into this latest homicide continues.”
From a preliminary standpoint, there are two possible motives being looked at. Sources close to Nasario believe that the hit may have been drug-related, as it is surmised that he may have happened upon a wet drop a few months ago. Another theory is that his murder may have been triggered by an incident involving his stepson earlier this week.
“From what the investigators have obtained on the grounds is that Mr. Edwin had just arrived at the hospital when he was approached by a lone gunman on a motorcycle who opened fire on him and fled the area. So we are trying to establish who that individual was and see how quick we can get him in custody.”
Notwithstanding his proximity to the emergency room, Nasario would not survive the deadly ordeal. The incident which has shaken up members of the hospital staff will undoubtedly prompt a revision of the security measures currently in place at the facility. News Five spoke with Dr. Franelda Gutierrez who told us that a meeting has been scheduled for Saturday morning to address the concerns of the hospital staff in the wake of the fatal shooting. We will have more on this developing story in Monday’s newscast. Reporting for News Five, I am Isani Cayetano.
