Milt signs two year US$7 million deal with Celtics
Months of waiting and wondering about his future ended today for Belizean basketball standout Milton Palacio, as he signed a two-year contract with the Boston Celtics. The terms? A cool seven million U.S. dollars. The third year point guard grew up in L.A., played college ball at Colorado State and broke into the NBA with Vancouver before finding a happy home in Boston. Milton’s deal was clinched when Miami and Washington both showed interest in pursuing negotiations, thus spurring the Celtics management to haul out their checkbook. It is not likely that Palacio will begin the season as a starter but should have a good chance to play quality minutes and eventually work his way into the starting five. In related news, Milton’s 1998 CARICOM championship teammate, six-foot-eight forward Alex Carcamo, has been accepted to play in the Sacramento Kings Summer Camp. This is a necessary, though not sufficient, first step into the NBA.
