Ivan Hyde is Shot Inside his House in Sand Hill Village

There was also gun violence in Sand Hill, Belize District, where a  resident was injured and recovering at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after he was shot inside his bathroom. Around ten o’clock this morning, Ivan Hyde, who is a labourer of mile nineteen on the Phillip Goldson Highway, was shot multiple times to the body by a gunman who entered his home and unleashed a barrage of bullets in his direction. According to a relative with whom we spoke, the gun blast echoed into the distance; shortly after, Hyde came running onto the highway and was rushed to the hospital. He and his girlfriend were at home at the time of the incident. Police arrived on the scene later and we are told that six expended shells were retrieved from inside the house. But who would want Hyde dead? There is speculation that this morning’s shooting may be linked to the disappearance of another Sand Hill resident, sixteen-year-old Doren Grinage, who went missing last Thursday and is presumed dead by his family. Commissioner of Police Chester Williams could not confirm if they incidents are related.

“I don’t want to speculate at this time. We cannot say whether or not there is any connection between the two incidents. I know that yes the police have been very active in the Sand Hill area over the past couple of days as the search was being done to locate the young man Grinage who had gone missing.”
