Accused murderer found dead in river
Most people are familiar with the saying “What goes around comes around”. And for twenty-two year old Guatemalan Juan Noe Suchite, karma caught up with him sooner than expected. Suchite shot and killed Jesus Ponce during a robbery at Rosy’s Store in Benque Viejo on Monday night and less than twenty-four hours later, he suffered a similar fate. Suchite’s body was recovered from the Mopan River after twenty year old Omar Perez Cornejo spotted him while diving and fishing in the water. Suchite was found clad in a long sleeve brown shirt and brown jeans and had a loaded point thirty-eight revolver and four expended shells tied around his neck with a shoe lace. The only injury police found on the body was a small cut above the right eye. But was his death an act of revenge? News Five spoke to Rosa Elena Juan, one of the robbery victims and a friend of Jesus Ponce, to find out what they know about Suchite’s death.

“What they told me about the guy—they found a guy by the river that was dead. So I went to see if that’s the same guy weh kill Jesus. So when I reached there the police instructed me to go down there. So one of the police came with a photograph of the guy and he show me it and I tell him that’s the guy. Then they call me mek I go, they let me pass and I went and I got and I saw him. When I saw him there laying down on the river and the clothes that he had on, I was never too sure. So they tell me well you have to come and see the face and he hold my hand. I went and I saw the face and as I saw his face, I tell the police, yes, this is the man and then by his neck he had a string where he had a gun. But the gun was below his back, so I couldn’t see the gun and what I saw is that he had the money in his pocket.”

“Did they tell you what they think happened to this man? How he died?”

“I haven’t gone as yet. Right now I am going to the police station and they will tell me there because Police Gonzalez told me that I need to go to the police station and they will tell me what happened.”

“Were you surprised to find out that the man who robbed you, your daughter and your father yesterday, turned out dead the next morning in a river?”

“I was surprised noh because I praise God. God made a revenge on what the killing of Jesus because it was not fair because he didn’t have no right to go and kill nobody.”
Suchite’s body has been taken to the K.H.M.H. to await a post-mortem examination.
